Jo Copland
My name is Jo Copland and I am a registered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, living and practising in the city of Edinburgh.
After graduating with an Honours degree in Psychology in 2000, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in 2001, I pursued a career in Primary Education for 20 years.
In that time, I experienced my own mental health difficulties. The power of talking and sharing with a professional was transformative and it was this that led me back to the field of psychology and on a journey of learning and training in counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy.
The relationship between a therapist and client is fundamental to success and change. I am a very warm, nurturing and compassionate individual with an innate desire to help and support others. I encourage autonomy and my ultimate goal of therapy is for you to become your own therapist.
I will teach you the skills and tools to manage your own life, bringing about happiness and contentment. This is what Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is all about.

At the beginning of therapy I was unsure that I'd find a solution to my problems because I did not understand the root of the problems. My therapist Jo helped me work out what this was and I was able to release a burden off my shoulders which I have had for a long time. The work I was given was relatable and appropriate for my situations and scenarios. From the homework, experiments and our sessions together, I have achieved an outcome that has set me up for life. For that, I am forever grateful.

Jo immediately put me at ease and I felt comfortable sharing very personal details of my life with her. She was patient and understanding and maintained a high professional standard. She asked relevant questions which were at times, hard to answer honestly but this is what made the real difference. The CBT tools and skills we worked through have helped me understand my problems but I also got a lot out of simply talking with Jo. I would not hesitate to recommend Jo to others looking for help.

Jo has helped me begin talking about my feelings and experiences. I felt listened to and not judged. I have learnt how to manage my thoughts and worries better. Initially, I was apprehensive but I needn't have worried as Jo was so warm and welcoming. The tools she has taught me have been so helpful in my day to day life.

Therapy has helped me achieve a much greater insight into my mental health issues, both in the current form and in the past. The cognitive and behavioural work has already improved my day-to-day experiences and I now have much more control over my life thanks to the tools I have been taught.
